How to Check Your Tire Pressure
Checking your tire pressure is as simple as using a tire gauge to measure the PSI level of each tire. Your vehicle should have a recommended tire pressure, so once you have your current tire pressure, adjust it accordingly using a tire inflator.
When to Check Your Tire Pressure
I would suggest routinely checking your tire pressure. A good rule of thumb is to check it at least once a month.
Another time I would recommend checking your tire pressure is when the seasons change and there are big changes in temperature. Since air is a gas, it expands as temperatures rise and contracts as temperatures fall. Because of this, temperature change can cause changes is your tire pressure, with drops in pressure as temperatures decrease, and increases in pressure as temperatures rise. This is why it is very important to check your tire pressure at the beginning and end of the cold weather seasons and ensure that they are properly inflated.
Benefits of Proper Tire Inflation
As I mentioned before, maintaining properly inflated tires is the best way to get maximum traction and control from your tires. It also extends the life of your tires and allows them to wear properly over time. Properly inflated tires also help improve your car’s gas mileage as well.
Remember, checking your tire pressure only takes a second, but can have a big impact on your tire performance.
